Interior Styling with Emily and EZLiving Furniture

Interior styling….some people love it, some people hate it!! What do you think?  For me, I love the final stages when you are making interior choices.  I get excited about deciding on the accessories to suit, selecting furniture that works right and trying to coordinate and pull together colours and textures. Many people like to decorate their own home and of course, why not!  But some people find it extremely difficult and don’t know where to start.  In this blog I will give you a few tips to help when decorating your home and I’ll also share some stylish furniture and accessories from EZ Living Furniture that offer great value for money.  I hope you find it helpful.

At the start of any build or renovation it is understandable that you are excited and of course enthusiastic.  I remember wanting to buy so many lovely accessories when we were building, planning different rooms around items that I saw in various shops, but this is definitely a no, no!  When it comes to accessories it is important to wait.  You need to think carefully about which furniture and accessories you would like to have. The best way to guarantee you complete the final step perfectly is to plan and budget, set time aside for research and save images of accessories that you feel are pleasing to the eye.  Impulse buying will do you no favours and in the end you will be left with accessories that don’t fit or match your overall interiors.  It’s important that your furniture and accessories work together, check out my next picture for example.   The Rosalie TV Unit from EZ Living is beautifully crafted from weather oak and features contrasting natural and dark painted finishes.  This gorgeous piece of furniture would compliment any living room and is coordinated so well with the Jovany Black Floor Lamp and Table Lamp with Cream Shade, along with the Inez Mirror.  What do you think?

Which gets me onto the importance of accessories.  This is where you get to put your stamp and personality on your home. You need to decide on accessories that not only reflect your spaces but also your style and taste, so you create a home that is unique and individual to you.  My number one rule would be “less is more”…..too many items can end up looking like clutter.  Here you’ll see the gorgeous dark brown Barumi Vase, teamed up with the Pescara Candle Holders and LED Candles to create a beautiful focal point on the coffee table.

Simple accessories can make a space come alive as they add texture, colour, pattern and shape.  Accessories should be all about bringing interest, beauty, fun and even function into a room, for example the Natty Footstools.  Their colour and design are so eye-catching but they also offer added extras.  They come in a set of two, which can be used as additional seating or for storage to keep your space clutter free.  Another way to add colour, pattern and function to a space is by adding baskets.  They are useful additions to any interiors and complement any décor.

Without accessories, no matter how beautifully decorated or furnished your rooms are, they will be left looking and feeling extremely unloved.  Accessories should never be overlooked.  A good tip to remember is that smaller items will be lost if spread out in a room.  To create a balanced and comfortable atmosphere you should group the accessories instead of placing everything here and there throughout your home, just like the Kavandu Vases here in the picture.  Grouping them together and mixing up size and colour, adds an interesting focal point to any room.

Another way to add colour to a room is with the simple addition of cushions.  The perfect way to add your personality and taste.  If a room gets used frequently and you have young children or pets, think about choosing cushions in fabrics which are more forgiving with stains. Soft shades will create a sense of quiet and calm, while more stylish cushions will create a more formal atmosphere and add a layer of luxury to a room.  Decorative cushions are commonly used to tie in colour within a room, often drawing on the colours in curtains, walls or rugs.

When it comes to figuring out how to design or decorate a room……furniture takes centre stage.  I’d recommend you choose one unique piece that pops, whether that is a striking sofa, a stand-out dining table, a colourful chair or beautiful console table.  Arranging furniture can be a daunting task. When you’re faced with an empty room, filling it in a way that is both sensible, functional and visually pleasing can seem like an overwhelming task.  Here’s some furniture from EZ Living Furniture Store that caught my eye and I feel would be a statement piece in any home.

So my advice when considering your finishing touches, is to think carefully and plan ahead.  I hope you found this blog helpful.  If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a message over at my Instagram page @emilyindonegal.
